ACTIVITY AIDE
The Center for Elders Independence is a non profit organization serving frail elders
in the East Bay. Our innovative, all-inclusive, long-term health care
program (PACE Program) provides the frail elderly with all the care they
need, allowing them to maximize their health & independence and remain
close to their family members and within the community. We currently have
an excellent opportunity for a Part-Time Recreation Therapist Aide every
Tuesday at Berkeley site.
The Position: Under
the direction and supervision of the Recreation Therapist or the Activity
Director, the Activity Aide provides services to center participants and
support to the Adult Day Health Care Center.
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ACTIVITY SERVICES
- Assists with individual and group recreational
activities such as art, music, crafts, discussions, to support participant’s
level of physical fitness and psycho social functioning.
- Provides input to the development of activities
program
- Monitors supplies and equipment used in activities
service and storage areas, and kitchen, (when used during an
activity).
- Maintains neat and clean environment in the activities
service and storage areas, and kitchen, (when used during an
activity).
- Provides support to volunteers and adult education
teachers and outside entertainers as appropriate.
DAY CENTER SERVICES
1. Assists
with all general support at the center such as greeting participants and
escorting ambulatory and mobility impaired participants to and from the
van.
2. Observes
and reports any changes in participants’ ambulation, transferring, psycho
social functioning, general behavior, and level of alertness.
3. Assists
day center staff with serving snacks and meals. Reports eating difficulties
and changes in appetite to the appropriate discipline.
4. Assists
with transferring if safe and appropriate.
5. Maintains
a courteous, helpful and professional attitude on the job. Displays a
willingness and ability to be responsive to all customer groups.
6.
Complies with all agency training requirements. Maintains
professional affiliations and any required certifications.
7.
Provides a safe environment for participants and self. Displays
awareness of safety hazards and reports and/or reverses hazards.
OTHER
1. Maintains
the confidentiality of all company procedures, results and information
about participants or families.
2. Follows
all CEI Policies and Procedures.
3. Complies
with all agency training requirements.
4. Maintains
safe working environment by following CEI’s safety P&P’s.
5. Maintains
a courteous, helpful and professional attitude on the job. Displays a
willingness and ability to be responsive to all customer groups.
6. Performs
other duties as assigned in a positive and helpful manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High
School Diploma or equivalent.
- One
year experience working with a frail or elderly population
- Ability
to work in multi-cultural and interdisciplinary setting.
- Excellent
interpersonal skill and ability to communicate effectively
- Strong
verbal and written communication skills
- Ability
to work with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility,
initiative and imagination.
- Current
CPR certification and First Aid training.
