MEDICAL CLERK
The Center for Elders
Independence is a non profit organization serving frail elders in the East Bay. Our innovative, all-inclusive, long-term health care program (PACE Program)
provides the frail elderly with all the care they need, allowing them to
maximize their health & independence and remain close to their family
members and within the community. We currently
have an opening for a Medical Clerk.
The Position: Under
the supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Medical Clerk provides clerical
support to the clinic to ensure that the clinic phones are answered at all
times, data is entered into the computer accurately and all necessary
internal and external communication required by this position such as
coordinating with other CEI departments, following up on pharmacy orders
and scheduling outside specialist appointments are handled efficiently and
appropriately.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Follows up on
medical orders including transferring all medical orders to nursing,
physical and homecare staff, Completing lab requisitions and faxing
medication orders to the pharmacy in timely manner.
2.
Schedules outside
appointments in coordination with other disciplines and insures follow up
documentation is received from providers and distributed appropriately. Enters
and maintains appointments in the computer database.
3.
Maintains data on
clinic appointments by registering participants and following tracking
system for patient visits.
4.
Advises participants/family
of scheduled appointments.
5.
Prepares and
sends appropriate paperwork to skilled nursing homes (SNF) as directed and
responds to questions from skilled nursing facilities (SNF) - researching
as required with MD/RN.
6.
Maintains clinic
file drawers and binders, updated and copies all forms needed by clinic
staff.
7.
Answers clinic telephones following phone etiquette guidelines (at
all times except breaks); screening calls for proper distribution and takes
messages.
8.
Responsible for
data entry of all outpatient procedures for referral and billing purposes.
9.
In collaboration
the lead health care worker and transportation dispatch, helps arrange
escorts for outside appointments.
10.
Informs
appropriate disciplines regarding medical order changes in diets,
nutritional supplements, acupuncture, podiatry, dental, health care wishes,
I & O records, swallowing evaluations.
11.
Obtains outside
reports required by MD/ Referral physician and distributes in timely
manner.
12.
Responsible for
entering Quality Indicator information on a monthly basis.
13.
Follows all
agency policies and procedures.
14.
Participates in meetings
as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.
At least two
years experience in a clerical capacity, preferably in a clinical setting.
2.
Medical Assistant
certification preferred.
3.
Knowledge of
medical terminology including the ability to use correctly and spell a wide
variety of medical terms. Completion of medical terminology course
preferred.
4.
Ability to work
in multi-cultural and inter-disciplinary setting.
5.
Clear and legible
handwriting.
6.
Able to create
and maintain a document management system.
7.
Good verbal and written
communication skills.
8.
Customer service
oriented with friendly, courteous communication style in person and on the
phone.
9.
Experience with
data entry and MS Office required.
10.
Detail oriented.
