How the iPad Training Program Works

iPad

We deliver iPads to seniors' homes and help with internet connections. Their free iPad is customized to their language, in large fonts.

Seniors learn in small groups from professional instructors. They meet 1x each week for 7 weeks.

Topics include internet safety, Zoom and Facetime, search, video, camera and email.

Graduation Cap

Graduates celebrate with a party and get a "Digital Literacy" certificate.

Hear from Sally, David and Kattie

Because we are using video I can see the other person when they speak. I can also write in Chinese, and use the translation app. I video chat with the doctor and a nurse.

Sieng "Sally" Mau

It's expanded my whole horizon. I had no computer experience at all. I was very much intimidated... Janelle was a great instructor.

David Turner

It's just another opportunity to learn something. When I found out I could look up quilts, I was floored. My thing was the arts and the quilting.

Everyone can learn, with the right support

  • Seniors are learning technology in their language
  • They love Facetiming family, Zooming with friends
  • Exploring the arts, science, sports and news
  • Gaining confidence that "tech is for them too"

Inclusion

Seniors are normally excluded from digital technology.

Seniors learn skills and safety, which builds confidence.

Mandarin, Spanish and English classes are offered, with more languages coming soon.

Connection

Elders in this training program are now connecting with friends and family.

The classes create new friendships. Each "graduating class" helps the next training class.

Health

With their new skills and iPads, these seniors have new connections to nurses and doctors, and social workers.

This is a new lifeline for elders who have health problems, who have a hard time leaving their home.
