“As a Center Director, I found my life’s passion. Seeing the positive outcomes is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling for me.”
As a Center Director, I found my life’s passion. By participating in the care for our seniors, seeing the positive outcomes is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling for me. I started on this path at age 14 when I worked at a retirement community and feel very blessed to be in this direct role. I bring my problem solving skills to each participant with the goal of relieving their stress, as they no longer have to attempt to figure things out on their own. From my experience as a family caregiver for my mother and experiences working in this field, I understand their challenges and serve as a strong advocate for their highest well-being with the many tools in my toolbox.
After graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from California State University, Chico, I started to work in healthcare in the human resources department at a home health and hospice agency. From there, I joined Center for Elders’ Independence in 2006 as a human resources analyst bringing my love of training and development to the role. Seven years later, I was thrilled to be promoted to Center Director for the Berkeley Center.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy baking cupcakes with my kids and sharing them with others. My husband and three kids are very active in sports in Concord. At my church, I am a music minister by singing and playing the guitar during Sunday services.

“Hearing my patients share, “I can do this thing again!” makes my work worth all of the efforts and dedication.”
Hearing my patients share, “I can do this thing again!” makes my work worth all of the efforts and dedication. When I see them become more functional under my care, it strengthens my commitment to this group of amazing people.
When I first see someone, I respectfully listen to their many challenges, whether it’s with their day-to-day living or having to manage numerous medications. We work together with all of the support under our PACE healthcare model to improve health by removing barriers to get much needed services. By seeing my patients once a month, we get better control of medications. They are far less anxious and they struggle much less. It truly is an ideal setting for our beloved seniors.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree from UC Davis, then completed my medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. I did my post-grad residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at CentraState Medical Center in New Jersey. While there, I solidified my desire to work with older adults under very dedicated geriatrics mentors. Soon after, I moved to Philadelphia to complete my fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. I returned home to the Bay Area to be closer to family and raise my children.
In addition to English, I speak conversational Filipino (Tagalog).
When I’m not seeing participants, I enjoy hiking, watching professional and college sports, and spending time with my wife and kids. My children keep me very busy with basketball and soccer.

“I love working with elders because they are the most authentic and transparent about the real struggle of wanting to maintain independence, self-reliance, and hope as they experience changes and loss. They teach me about deeper aspects of myself by reflecting their true humanity.”
I love working with elders because they are the most authentic and transparent about the real struggle of wanting to maintain independence, self-reliance, and hope as they experience changes and loss. They teach me about deeper aspects of myself by reflecting their true humanity. I love watching seniors interact with each other, make friends, socialize, and continue to exceed their expectations and perceived limitations. As a palliative care specialist, I am inspired by what matters most as I learn about participants’ wishes for their health now and in the future.
After visiting an assisted living community at seven years old, I started on my path to becoming a geriatric nurse. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Rochester and immediately began my Master’s degree of Science in Nursing at Boston College focusing on gerontology and palliative care. I started my nursing career in Sacramento working with an internal medicine specialist as a nurse practitioner. As I worked with the senior patients, I developed an expertise in end-of-life family-centered communications. I moved to the South Bay to expand my skills to provide excellent medical care in a variety of situations and needs of my patients. I joined Center for Elders’ Independence in 2014 as the PACE model of care truly inspires me. Providing access to total care to vulnerable seniors who need a centralized way to have their medical and life needs met brings me joy and purpose in my life.
I speak English and Spanish.
For fun, I read or listen to books about metaphysics, Jungian psychology, conscious healing and business related books. I also train and coach other caregivers. I enjoy being creative by writing and composing songs and melodies with a producer as well as playing the piano and singing several times a week. I strive to take one international and one domestic trip every year to explore new places.

“I knew before choosing nursing school that I wanted to work with seniors and make a positive difference for this vulnerable group of resilient people.”
I knew before choosing nursing school that I wanted to work with seniors and make a positive difference for this vulnerable group of resilient people. I served elders as a bedside nurse, which further solidified my dedication to serving this population.
I began my nursing studies at the University of New Mexico graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After spending the next six years serving in the U.S. Navy as a Nurse Corps Officer, I decided to obtain a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of San Francisco. I am also a certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. During my studies, I know I wanted to be a part of a multi-disciplinary team that truly works together on multiple levels to offer the most well-rounded care for seniors and older adults.
My husband and I really enjoy global travel and have explored Norway, Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Italy and Peru. We are eager to travel again in the future. In the meantime, we spend time together hiking and reading. My husband is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in nuclear engineering at UC Berkeley. Our dog and cat are a big part of our little family.
